In northern Chile, a stretch of Atacama Desert has become known as the fashion industry’s biggest dumpster. Discarded clothing enters the country in bales through the tax-free zone in Iquique. What can’t be sold by merchants gets transported to neighboring Alto Hospicio and illegally dumped into its surrounding dunes. These illegal landfills come with a host of environmental and human-health is...

Keeping Pace: No One Runs an Ultramarathon Alone
Просмотров 200 тыс.Месяц назад
Almost no one runs an ultramarathon alone. Pacers are the drumbeat of any runner’s team. They provide company for portions of the race and keep the motivation high, the legs moving and the calories flowing (in, hopefully not out). They can be the difference between dropping and finishing. But for Lisa Jhung, pacing is about much more than just helping her friends so they’ll return the favor. It...

A great film. Thanks
I got to 42:43 (of 46:13) before I realized this was an advertisement. I hope there wasn't a coupon at the end. Fearless.
God created everything.
unn pueema!!!, gracias!
This was a fantastic documentary; I’ve known most of this about Patagonia and have always admired their philosophy.
Good thing there is no environmental impact to flying around the world to engage in totally necessary extreme sports
the periodic resurection of the mcrib was by design.
Yawn
BTEC / AI generated Philomena Cunk is doing my head in. This is so unbearable to watch.
Can't watch anything without climate change psyop propaganda
Im a fan of Philomena Cunk, and i do NOT appreciate the narrator and bad jokes in this documentary
I found this incredibly insulting. Maybe I'm not the target audience - I'm sure you workshopped this with your huge expensive marketing department. Keep up the good work.
LOL. Cavemen are always depicted as mouth breathers who can’t walk straight for some reason. WTF. There’s little proof to back up this projection. I am enjoying the commercial however.
Close to zero actual physics or science in this video, watch how ‘ten toes’ explains it to get a better understanding.
I actually get offended when someone gifts me some cheap junk - I just think ‘what a waste’.
Lost me at Steven b Brian. Do yourself a favor n research Wonky Donkey
Fark yeah Steves!!!!
This is terrible, I've watched 8 minutes and it's all over the place and the jokes aren't very good.
Why do I feel this doc sounds like Philomena Cunk's?
I just watched that.
"People didn't want a washing machine".... Spoken like someone who never had to spend 8 hours washing all household cloth by hand, in a river, 5 miles away from your home. :)
The only thing that makes me happy now is not having to watch ads. Go Premium!! Worth every penny.
I'd love to know who filmed + edited this video. Can you credit the production team Patagonia? Thanks!
Sigh, more propaganda disguised as maybe a documentary?
I've always found the consumer differences between the sexes really interesting that men will make their clothes last until they are practically falling off them and they value things that are well made, old and last whereas women don't seem to value these factors and focus more on the constant change in fashion trends. It's common to hear of wives or girlfriends throwing out their male partners' clothing (including his highly valued 'old' hat that he always wears when working outside), not because they are no longer serviceable, but merely because they are old. There's no doubt about it, it's the poor downtrodden men that will have to be the ones to save this planet!
I have many pieces from the Patagonia "High alpine Kit", but, I have researched and created my own from many different companies. I love my Ascensionist packs and I love the hybrid sleeping bag, I have put together so many pieces from Mammut, MHW, Patagonia, BD, Petzl, Arcteryx, LA Sportiva, and so many other companies to create what I think is the best climbing gear for me. I don't really like being a fan boy without questioning the price and overall bang for the buck.
Why isn’t there a number for the dislikes?
Perfectly actionable knowledge, vandalized by greedy, smug little shits. Where's James Burke when you need him?
Humans are Virus !
Every school should see this…it is about hard work, not taking the path most traveled, it is their future.
This has nothing to do with 'evolution.' It has to do with parasitism. 'The Economy' is the revenue generation machine of the parasite 'system' running society. More consumption equals more sales which generates more taxable events, which is the revenue which feeds the parasite. Governments collect taxes for the parasite, which lends money to governments to function. What does one think the central bank rate of interest is all about? It's the rate of interest charged to governments borrowing money in order to function. It's all about the money.
Disposable society. Planned obsolescence. Products engineered to fail at the warranty expiration. Mandatory software updates that intentionally render hardware unusable. Hidden costs in goods and services that nickel and dime the consume into paying far more than they bargained for. Constant onslaught of marketing to convince consumers they need to spend spend spend.
Shitthropocene began with the conception of planned obsolescence, a century ago.
My grandmother was a Haenyeo on Jeju Island and then immigrated to Japan. I have always admired her strength and resilience, and I can see where they came from. This short film made me question the definition of beauty in women in our current generation. It was such a short film, but I was very inspired by it and felt a sense of joy because I was able to connect with and honor my grandmother's life as a Haenyeo. Thank you for making this film!
Not even a minute into this documentary & an "ad" for some useless shite is forced into my face 🤔
new way of adverticing ! looks good but climat chang is not the biggest problem the mass extingtion is! we need a new trend nakes fishing and climbing ........back country will be hard ore small?
That guy is sincerely concerned about Uyghurs. I believe him. And I also like the concept that fisherman's pants are the real environmental threat, not his Ford F150.
This is the goddamn longest ad I have endured.
Maybe it's no longer about the survival of the puny humans... it's about the survival of the corporations. If selling disposable cheap crap increases their odds of surviving, then it's what we'll get.
We're worshipping false profits ;-)
Just remember one thing: Afghanistan is so far from any deep sea port, capitalism couldn't figure out a way to make child slave labor sewing shoes or tshirts turn a profit there. That's why Afghanistan remains a geopolitically failed state. Nothing there is even worth a secure tap line to a mine of some valuable resource. Their only products is opioids like heroin, mercenaries and Islamist extremist terror hospitality biz aka terror tourism.
😊🎉 hey there 🤗👋☺️😀😁
I just wondered if the silliest of all life forms is a gopnik, antivaxxer or Jan 6th rioter shaman. I couldn't conclude it and fell into a meme hole of the internet.
The longest advert I've ever watched, interspersed with a lot of adverts.
I can't believe that a doco on conspicuous consumption didn't mention Edward Bernays
the fact that my name is Steve made this hit different.
and this is the world we live in... full of absolute choreographed "BULL!"
This had been interesting up to about 19:00 when a sudden leap of logic was made to associate working conditions with consumerism. And anyone dismisses the desirability of a washing machine has never done laundry by hand. It's a shame that the observation of something that is real (shitification) couldn't be covered better. People are getting shitty products because that's the value judgement they make. High quality products are available, but people choose to spend their money on other things. Fifty years ago, you would buy a nice suit because what else were you going to buy? Today, you have a lot more choices. Were you manipulated into buying a $1000 phone that gets replaced every few years? Maybe there was some marketing involved but that was to get you to buy a specific phone in a competitive industry - you were still going to buy a phone because it's useful and makes your life better. It's better value than a suit. Anyway, the video is the usual socialist drivel. I'm bailing out here...
Sorry! But this is not only boring after the first few minutes but also irritating. Can't face even just ten minutes!
Your caveman brings to my mind how technology keeps moving relentlessly forward while peoples minds more often than not are incapable of commensurate growth. Wash rinse repeat. Entropy lols.
